Company Overview

Lethbridge Iron Works (aka. Leth Iron) is another one of Locke-Brothers recent partnerships in 2020.  Leth Iron was founded in 1898 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada and is a long established company in the iron casting market. Over the past century the company has become an industry leader in supplying iron castings to various customer segments throughout North America.

Leth Iron is a modern production foundry housed in a 120,000 square foot facility on 7 acres of land. It was constructed in 1975 and has been expanded, updated, and rearranged for increased production efficiency. Several capital projects have been undertaken to outfit the foundry with cutting-edge automated production equipment in all departments. Due to Leth Iron’s focus on technology and business growth, Locke-Brothers is excited to partner with them to satisfy our customers’ ductile iron and specialty high-wear iron needs. 

Capabilities

Leth Iron produces:

  • Ductile Iron

  • Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI)

  • Carbidic Austempered Ductile Iron (CADI) and High-Chrome Iron castings.

  • Production runs up to 100,000 pieces

  • Casting weight of 0.5 - 600 pounds

Tooling and Part Design

Dedicated design staff assist customers with product development and help with the 3D model development of iron castings. This can save significant time and money during product development.

Prototype Tooling

Leth Iron facilitates the manufacture of prototype tooling at significant savings in cost and lead time compared to production tooling, allowing for cost effective small quantity sampling.

Core Production

3 Laempe Cold Set Core Machines (high production of cores 0.5 to 150 lbs.) and also various Shell Core Hot Box Machines.

Mold Production

  • 2 Hunter-10 14"X19" automated molding machines (casting weights 0.5 to 35 lbs.) - [150 molds per hour with automated handling]

  • 3 Hunter-20 20"X24" automated molding machines (casting weights 0.5 to 50 lbs.) - [120 molds per hour with automated handling]

  • 1 SPOmatic 32"X44" (mold height - 26") automated cope & drag molding line (casting weights 20 to 600 lbs.) - [60 molds per hour with automated handling]

Melt

Total melt capacity is 15,000 lbs. per hour

  • 22 Ton Channel Induction Furnace (1,000 KW)

  • 2 Coreless Induction Furnaces (1,500 KW each)

Finishing (Grinding)

  • Six fully-automated Foxall™ robotic grinding stations

  • Various snag grinding stations

  • Two automatic storage & retrieval systems

  • Various shot blast machines
